New Health Atlas launched (April 2014)

A new health atlas has been launched to enable researchers and the public to better understand how risk levels vary according to region. The atlas provides interactive maps of geographical variations for a range of health conditions and environmental agents at a neighbourhood (small-area) scale in England and Wales.Available here, the health atlas can be used to visually demonstrate those areas with the highest incidence of skin cancer.Prof Paul Pharoah, professor of cancer epidemiology at the University of Cambridge, said: “This atlas does not enable anyone to judge their individual absolute risk… People should definitely not use this atlas to decide where to live…What these data should do is help researchers identify important hypothesis that should be tested using research designs.”
